How to find cheap flights from Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn

By the Baltic Flights team · · 6 min read

The Baltics are a small region with big choice: three capitals within a few hours of each other, each with its own mix of airlines and routes. That is good news for your wallet, because the cheapest flight to a given city often leaves from a different airport than the one next door. Here is how we approach it, and how the Baltic Flights tools are built around it.

1. Compare Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn before you pick dates

The same destination can be noticeably cheaper from one capital than from another on the same day. Airlines price each airport on its own demand, and the three capitals are served by different carriers. Before you commit, run the search from all three and see which one wins.

On Baltic Flights you can switch your departure city at any time and every price on the page follows it, so the comparison takes seconds.

2. Start from the destination map when you have no plan yet

If you just want to get away, do not start with a city. Open the map for your departure airport and look at where the direct flights go and what they cost today. Letting the price choose the destination is how many of the best short trips get booked.

  • The map only shows destinations with a non-stop flight from the airport you chose.
  • Tap a price to jump straight into a pre-filled search for that route.
  • Use Explore to filter by month, continent or budget.

3. Stay flexible with dates

Moving a trip by a single day can change the fare more than switching airlines. The price calendar on every route page shows the cheapest days of the month at a glance, and the month chart shows which months are cheapest overall.

Mid-week departures are often cheaper than Friday and Sunday ones, but check your own route instead of assuming.

4. Look at Kaunas and the smaller airports

Kaunas is about a hundred kilometres from Vilnius and is popular with low-cost airlines, so some routes are cheaper from there. Palanga and Tartu have fewer flights, but when your destination is served, it can be a bargain and a lot less crowded. Always add the cost and time of getting to the airport before you decide.

5. Compare the total price, not the headline fare

Low-cost airlines are very competitive on the base fare, but a cabin bag, a checked bag and seat selection can change the picture. Compare the full price for the baggage you actually need. Our guide to hand luggage on low-cost airlines explains what to check.

6. Let a price alert do the refreshing

Checking the same route every morning is tiring and you will still miss the dips. Set a free price alert for the route and we will email you when the fare drops, in the language and currency you choose.
